The Martins in America (1867–1900)

After their father died and their mother fell off the written record, the five living Martin children had to make their own way in the world. While the girls were farmed out to relatives and placed as servants, Peter and William stuck together and continued their father’s occupation, ironstone mining. They traveled across Scotland for most of two decades, then took bold steps to immigrate to the United States. Peter went first in 1867 and William followed shortly afterward.

Adventures followed as well as success in mining and in business. The Martins in America, tells all about the places, people, and accomplishments of the Peter and William Martin as they crossed the ocean and traveled across a continent to finally settle in the Utah Territory.
